Uruguay was very lucky to get past Ghana in the quarterfinals as they made it on a missed penalty kick after Luis Suarez was red-carded for a handball. Suarez was suspended, so Uruguay will be without him in this semifinal competition versus the Netherlands. Uruguay will also be without defender Jorge Ciro Fucile who is suspended and they may be without wounded captain Diego Lugano and midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro. Defender Gregory van der Wiel and midfielder Nigel de Jong, who are suspended, won’t be playing for the Netherlands.

Without having Suarez’s handball, the team would have lost to Ghana, so Suarez was really the hero for Uruguay. The squads went to extra time since they were tied 1-1 after regulation time. In the last minute, Suarez kept a shot from the Uruguay goal with his hands and then Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan slammed the crossbar with his penalty shot. Uruguay went on to win the competition 4-2 on penalty kicks.

For Uruguay to win this competition they are going to need Diego Forlan to score. With Suarez from the roster, he is the 1 true scoring threat. Holland has a lot more scoring depth led by Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder.
