world cup 2010 Odds Could be Impacted by US Squad

The U.S. 23-man team for the 2010 world cup has been named and the U.S. is expected to build some noise in 2010 world cup odds.

The U.S. opens up play vs England and that competition may determine how far the U.S. goes in World Cup betting.

There are some familiar names on the 23-man roster that United States coach Bob Bradley detailed on Wednesday. There are some new faces including Edson Buddle and Herculez Gomez, and Landon Donovan and DaMarcU.S. Beasley are on the team again. There were seven players removed from the team. These were defenders Heath Pearce and Chad Marshall; midfielders Alejandro Bedoya, Sacha Kljestan and Robbie Rogers; and forwards Eddie Johnson and Brian Ching.

This will be the third World Cup for Donovan, Beasley, and defender Steve Cherundolo. A lot of the players on the U.S. roster come from Europe. Actually, 17 of the 23 players have been competing in Europe. There are 2 from Mexican teams and 4 from the MLS. Eight of the players have been competing in England, three in Germany, 2 in Scotland, and in one in Italy, France, Norway and Denmark.

The U.S. is a lengthy shot to win the World Cup as they are listed at 52-1. They are the 2nd choice to win Group C behind England. The U.S. is 4-1 to win Group C while England is the odds-on favorite at -325. Slovenia and Algeria are not expected to be a great deal of danger in that group. The U.S. starts World Cup play vs England on Saturday, June 12th. England is a -210 favorite in that competition while the U.S. is 470 and the Draw is 290.

The U.S. hosted the World Cup in 1994. It has not yet, however, won the tournament.

South Africa beat out Morocco and Egypt for the honor. The FIFA World Cup is held once every four years and features 32 teams from different nations competing against each other for the championship in football. This event has historically been dominated by Brazil, which holds a record five titles and is the only team to have played in every tournament. The current champion is Italy, which has won the title four times total. The next World Cup will be held in 2014 in Brazil.
